KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has refuted allegations that a third suspect was arrested in connection with the attack on national footballer Faisal Halim.
He was responding to claims by whistleblower group "Edisi Siasat" that police had nabbed another suspect who was purportedly a bodyguard of a well-known personality.
"Some have asked about the claims made by Edisi Siasat that a third suspect was apprehended. There isn't any. Only two suspects have been arrested.
"I urge everyone not to speculate about this case; it's not good. When someone mentions the (royal) palace on social media, it shouldn't happen," he told reporters when met today.
Razarudin said he had left the matter to the respective officers to take care of the case and ensure a thorough investigation.
"I have directed the federal police Criminal Investigation Department director (Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain) to restructure the investigation. We will review the information we have.
"Even Shuhaily was on the ground today to see how we (federal police) can assist with the investigation."
Razarudin said several security measures have been taken to ensure the safety of footballers who might be targeted in another assault.
"The Home Ministry has requested the police to enhance the security of football players. However, all football clubs themselves need to take measures to protect their players.
"If they notice someone following them or suspicious activity near their homes, they should immediately call the police."
Earlier, media reported that Shuhaily said the police had lifted fingerprints left behind by the suspects in the case.
He said a review of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed the suspects touched several surfaces in the area.
