KUALA LUMPUR: Klang Valley residents have started stockpiling water ahead of the scheduled water supply disruption from June 5 (Wednesday) to June 7 (Friday).

They said a proactive approach would ensure they had enough water during the period.

According to Air Selangor, the water supply will be disrupted due to "asset maintenance and replacement works" at the Sungai Selangor Phase 1 Water Treatment Plant.

Puncak Alam Fasa 3 resident Fauziah Harun said she began filling pails and containers with water yesterday.

She said she must be well-prepared as she lived on Level 5 of a walk-up apartment.

"Today, I spent hours in the morning preparing food for the water cut period.

"It's good that Air Selangor issued a notice early, giving us ample time to prepare.

"It is a hassle to have to live without water for several days. I hope the maintenance and replacement of assets will be completed on schedule."

According to Air Selangor's schedule, water supply is expected to return to Puncak Alam Fasa 3 by 3am on June 7.

U5 Bandar Pinggiran Subang resident Alif Mohamad, 38, said he had stored enough water for his family of three.

"If we run out of water, we will go to my parents' house in Section 24, Shah Alam.

"Luckily, my parents' house won't be affected by the water cut. We will go there if we run out of water or if the water supply takes longer to return."

According to the schedule, water supply is expected to return to U5 Bandar Pinggiran Subang by 3pm on June 6.

Taman Melawati resident Iylia Ayuni Halimi said she had stored enough water for the water cut period and hoped her family of five would be able to cope with it.

"We have stored water in containers to ensure we have enough water to use in case our tank runs dry or the water supply takes longer than expected to return."

According to the schedule, water supply is expected to return to Taman Melawati by 3pm on June 7.

Air Selangor had said Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor would be affected by the water cut.

It said the water supply disruption will start from 9am on June 5 (Wednesday) and return from 3am on June 6 (Thursday).

It said the water cut will take affect in 20 per cent of the areas by 3pm on June 6 and 90 per cent of areas by 3am on June 7.

The water supply is expected to fully recover by noon on June 7.

On Monday, Selangor Infrastructure, Public Amenities and Agriculture Modernisation Committee chairman Izham Hashim said the upgrading and maintenance works were necessary as the assets were more than 30 years old, with some critical components requiring replacement and maintenance.

This includes two valves — 1,350mm and 1,450mm — at the Matang Pagar Water Treatment Plant that have been in use since the 1990s. Replacing them is essential to ensure the Sungai Selangor Phase 1 Water Treatment Plant continues to function well.
