KOTA BARU: The suspect involved in the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) shooting incident, was arrested on Jalan Bayam this afternoon.

The suspect, Hafizul Hawari, 38, was apprehended in front of Perdana Specialist Hospital, just metres away from the Kelantan Contingent police headquarters at 3pm.

Sources said the suspect was arrested by a team of officers and members from the Special Crime Investigation Department (D9) of the Kelantan contingent Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

It is reported that the suspect was apprehended in front of Perdana Specialist Hospital after a scuffle.

"During the arrest, there was a scuffle, and the suspect was alone," the source said, adding that the police also seized a pistol from the suspect.

Earlier, the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, had confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect was apprehended at a location in Kota Baru at around 3pm earlier today.

Previously, police had sought information from family members and acquaintances of Hafizul Harawi, who fled after opening fire at the KLIA Terminal 1 yesterday, to locate his whereabouts.

Razarudin said that police had also tightened control at the border including the rat trails to prevent Hafizul from fleeing to a neighbouring country.

He added that the man's photographs had also been distributed at all entry points in the north of the Peninsula and to the authorities of a neighbouring country.

In the 1.30am incident yesterday, a man fired two shots, one of which hit his wife's bodyguard.

The victim is currently being treated at a hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
