SUNGAI PETANI: Police have arrested a man who appeared in viral videos kicking his neighbour's fence in Taman Ria Jaya here.

Kuala Muda police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said the suspect has been arrested today for investigation under Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing mischief.

Azharuddin said a 36-year-old woman who lives two doors away from the suspect's home had lodged a police report over the disturbances early this month.

"Based on initial investigation, the incident has been going on over the past two years... the complainant finally lodged a police report early this month.

"Investigation also showed that there was minor damage to the complainant's fence but nothing was stolen from the house," he said when contacted.

Azharuddin added that following the report, police summoned both parties for consultation.

"It was discovered that the complainant never has any issue with the suspect and the act was being committed for no apparent reason," he said.

However, despite being advised by the police, Azharuddin said the man kept on repeating the act of kicking the complainant's fence, which led to his arrest.

He added that based on initial interrogation, the suspect is a disabled person with mental illness.

It is learnt the complainant lodged a police report on May 2 against the suspect for kicking her house's fence.

In the report, she said the man had been doing so multiple times a day with no apparent reason.

The woman said she decided to lodge the police report out of fear for the safety of her family and their property.
