BATU PAHAT: A 21-year-old burglar charged with three thefts in a day has been sentenced to 20 months in prison.
News of his crimes have gone viral on social media and he has been dubbed as Spider Solo by netizens.
Muhammad Hassanuddin Efendi pleaded guilty as soon as the charges were read to him before magistrate Suhaila Shafi'uddin at the court here today.
According to the first and second charges, he was accused of possessing stolen property, including two rings and a pair of earrings belonging to a 59-year-old woman, as well as a Balmer wristwatch belonging to a 23-year-old man.
He was caught with the stolen items near Surau India Muslim and Surau India Muslim Selatan, Jalan Fatimah, here at 3.30pm on March 20.
For both charges, he faced a maximum imprisonment of up to five years or a fine or both, upon conviction.
The first victim reported that her car had been broken into and her jewellery was missing. Hassanuddin then broke into the house of the second victim and escaped with the watch.
On the third charge, he was accused of breaking into a house and a vehicle to steal a mobile phone belonging to a 54-year-old man in Taman Sri Kenangan here at 2.45am on the same day.
For this charge, the accused could be sentenced to jail for up to seven years or a fine, or both, if convicted.
Deputy public prosecutor Siti Khalijah Khalid prosecuted the case, while Hassanuddin was represented by Tan Song Yan from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK).
