KUALA LUMPUR: A drug-related 'business' transaction was believed to be the motive behind an incident where a woman was held captive for 10 hours after being abducted in front of a convenience store in Jalan Sentul, last Monday.

Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said it received a report from the 30-year-old victim's husband on the day of the incident.

"According to witnesses, four people, including a woman, were seen forcibly taking the victim, who works at the convenience store, into a Perodua Myvi at about 5pm on Monday.

"Based on the information received, we conducted a raid around 3am on Tuesday at two locations in Bukit Damansara and Sentul, leading to the arrest of four men and a woman aged between 25 and 31.

"Swift action by the police led to the victim being rescued from the suspect and she was found unharmed," he told a press conference at the Sentul district police headquarters (IPD) here today.

The complainant, a mechanic, told police that the suspects demanded a payment of RM100,000 for a debt owed by his friend, believed to be related to a drug transaction.

"During the time of his wife's abduction, the complainant handed over RM45,000 to the suspects before they were apprehended by the police."

Police are searching for Mohd Daniel Harris Azmi, 26, whose last known address is in Sungai Petani, Kedah to assist in investigations.

He said checks revealed that all the suspects, including the one who is still at large, have criminal and drug-related records.

"We also seized a Perodua Myvi car used by the suspects to abduct the victim. The case is being investigated under Section 363 of the Penal Code for kidnapping."

Those with information on the suspect who is still at large may contact the Sentul police headquarters operations room at 03-40482222 or go to any police station.
