KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a 25-year-old local man with a criminal record for three prior drug-related offences in connection with a case involving the assault of a 73-year-old man by a road bully.

This comes after the man's daughter took to Facebook to appeal to netizens to help locate the assailant.

Sepang police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof, in a statement, said the case was being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of seven years and a fine.

"On Jan 30, police received a report from a 73-year-old Malaysian citizen, a retiree, who claimed to have been assaulted in front of a private clinic located in Taman Tasik Puchong Prima, Putra Perdana, Sepang.

"Following a medical examination, the complainant was found to have swelling on the head, bruising on the left eye, a broken left cheekbone, and a broken lower left eye socket.

"On Feb 5 at 5pm, the suspect was apprehended by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Sepang police headquarters. The suspect is a 25-year-old Malaysian citizen, self-employed."

Wan Kamarul also confirmed that the image of a man circulating on social media as that of the victim and called for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

At the time of the incident, he said, the victim was driving from Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, to Putra Perdana, Sepang, intending to meet a friend.

While in Puchong Prima, the victim was assaulted by the suspect without provocation.

The suspect in this incident also uttered the words: "You're stupid, can't even give a signal."

The suspect struck the victim in the face, head and ribs.

The victim continued his journey, with the suspect following, and upon reaching a bakery shop in Putra Perdana, Sepang, approximately 1km from the previous location, the victim was blocked by the suspect.

The suspect once again pulled the victim out of the car and punched the victim in the eye and kicked him repeatedly.

The victim was left at the scene and taken by ambulance to Serdang Hospital for treatment.

Earlier today, the New Straits Times reported that a woman had turned to Facebook to help her locate a road bully who assaulted her father last week.

In a posting on her Facebook page, Saraswathy Sivapalan said the incident happened on Jan 30 at 9am at Jalan PP 2/5, Taman Putra Prima in Puchong.
