NIBONG TEBAL: Police have arrested three people for assaulting a man in front of a row of shops in Jalan Sungai Udang, here yesterday.

The incident, caught on video, has since gone viral on social media.

Seberang Prai South district police chief, Superintendent Ng Ah Thiam, said police were alerted to the 29-second video which showed the man being assaulted by the group.

He said the incident took place on Monday and that police have since received two reports.

"The victim was approached by four men in a black Toyota Vellfire MPV.

"The suspects attempted to pull the man into the vehicle. However, they were stopped from doing so by the victim's elder sister as well as the locals," he said in a statement.

He said checks suggested that the incident stemmed from an unpaid loan with one of the suspects.

"Police have arrested three men, all Malaysians, and seized the vehicle in question.

"We are also asking the public to not share the video or post comments which could jeopardise the peace," he said.

The case is being probed under Section 365 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
