TENOM: Police are searching for three suspects in connection with a burglary and assault at the Tenom Immigration office.

The incident occurred on Thursday at 1.11am, when the burglars attacked and injured a security guard before tying him up.

District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Hasan Majid said the victim was patrolling outside the immigration office when he encountered two masked men, one of whom attacked him with a sharp weapon, believed to be a saw.

"The 29-year-old victim attempted to defend himself using his hand and sustained injuries. Both suspects subsequently tied up the victim's hands.

"The burglars then broke into the immigration office through the back door and searched the premises, before making their escape in a waiting car driven by an accomplice," he said in a statement.

Hasan said following the incident, the victim managed to contact his wife using his mobile phone to seek assistance.

He said the missing items from the burglary include two mobile phones, car keys, and a passport.

"The victim is currently being treated for his injuries at Keningau Hospital.

"The suspects' identities have yet to be confirmed, but efforts to track them down are ongoing," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine, or caning for the offence of gang-robbery.
