KUANTAN: An immigration officer claimed trial at the Kuantan Sessions Court here today to two counts of corruption charges amounting to RM600 some two years ago.

Rohaizi Ismail, 50, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read out by a court interpreter before Judge Mohd Sabri Ismail.

The father-of-three, attached to the Pahang Immigration Department, was alleged to have received a valuable item, cash amounting RM600 through online banking on two occasions from an individual whom he knew had connections with his official duties.

He was charged with committing the offence at a financial institution along Jalan Bukit Ubi here on May 15, 2022 and July 30, 2022. On each occasion, Rohaizi allegedly received RM300.

The charge, under Section 165 of the Penal Code, provides imprisonment for up to two years or fine, or both, if found guilty.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) deputy public prosecutor Rifah Izzati Abdul Mutalif proposed RM5,000 bail with additional conditions for the accused to surrender his passport to the court and report to the MACC office every month.

However, the accused who was not represented, pleaded for a lower bail saying he has to support his wife, sick mother and three children.

Sabri fixed RM5,000 bail with one surety and ordered him to report to the MACC office every month. He fixed April 24 for mention.
