KUANTAN: A housewife lost RM35,000 after being duped by a pet grooming service.

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said that based on reports, the 40-year-old victim who initially saw an advertisement on the service on Jan 13, got in touch with an individual from the contact number provided.

"The suspect then asked the victim to download an application that was given purportedly for the purpose of payment for the said services offered. However after filling in the necessary information and details in the said application, the victim found that the money in her bank account was short by a staggering RM35,000, which is money she inherited from her father.

"Upon realising that she had been duped, the victim then proceeded to lodge a police report and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code," he said in a statement today (Jan 18).

Ramli advised members of the public to avoid downloading any unnecessary apps.

"Do not reveal your banking details to a third party or on any online application that is dubious and suspicious," he said.
