BACHOK: A 45-year-old principal of a religious school in Machang was detained by police this morning for allegedly raping a student.
Kelantan police chief Deputy Commissioner Shafien Mamat said the suspect was detained after a third party revealed the incident via the e-Kasih hotline.
"Following this, a police team went to the principal's house in Machang at about 6.30am and detained him," he told reporters, here, today.
Shafien said initial investigations showed that the girl was allegedly raped since 2017, when she was only 13.
He added investigations also revealed that the incident occured mostly on weekends.
"The girl also admitted to the incident after she was approached by her family," he said, adding that the girl was sent to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital for a medical check-up.
"The suspect will be remanded soon and the case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code," Shafien added.
