KUANTAN: A 47-year-old man, who was in the same car with a businessman who was shot dead by a gunman earlier today, has been remanded to facilitate investigations.

State Criminal Investigations Department chief Datuk Othman Nayan said the suspect who was at the front passenger seat of the Toyota Estima had fled the scene when the gun shots were fired towards his 63-year-old friend who was driving the car.

"The suspect from Johor Baru has been remanded for seven days until Aug 12. We hope to complete investigations soon," he said today.

In the 1.30am incident, the victim who was behind the wheel was killed when a suspect armed with a gun shot at him from outside the vehicle.

The victim and his friend had just returned from an entertainment outlet and were about to get out of the car when the shots were fired. His friend managed to escape and hide.

The victim then attempted to drive himself to hospital. He was found unconscious in front of a pharmacy and taken to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital here where he was pronounced dead.

Pahang police chief Datuk Abd Jalil Hassan said investigations found the victim had three gunshot wounds in several parts of his body.

“We are investigating the type of weapon used by the suspect and the motive," he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
