GEORGE TOWN: A Myanmar man was stabbed to death a fellow countryman at a double-storey house in Jalan Siam, near here today.

The body of Maung Soe Than, 29, was found by his employer at 10am. Police said there were at least six stab wounds on the victim's chest, ribs and back.

State Criminal Investigations Department chief Datuk Zainol Samah said his men have rounded up 11 individuals near the area for questioning.

“During interrogation, one of them admitted to the murder. We have also established that prior to the attack, there was a misunderstanding between the suspect and the victim." he said.

It was learnt that the Myanmar nationals were staying at the double-storey house to carry out renovation work at a nearby building.

Meanwhile, Maung’s employer, who declined to be named, said he came to the house to check on his workers and was shocked to find a body of one of them in the living room.

“Without hesitation, I immediately contacted the police.

“I have no idea what had happened or what kind of problems they were having that could have led to the killing." he said.
