SUNGAI PETANI: The police have classified the robbery cases at a launderette and 24-hour convenient shops in Bandar Puteri Jaya and Taman Ria in Sg Petani as closed with the arrest of the third suspect.

Kedah police chief Datuk Abd Rahim said the third suspect, unemployed and in his 20s, was arrested in Bukit Tengah, Juru at about 7am.

“The arrest of the suspect, who doesn’t have any criminal record, solved the three robbery cases which took place at the launderette and the two shops in a span of 15 minutes in Sg Petani,” he said after attending the 2018 Police Innovation Assessment Award at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tengku Laksamana here today.

Earlier, Sg Petani Sessions Court assistant registrar Balkhis Abdul Halim ordered the suspect to be remanded for six days to facilitate the investigation under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang and armed robbery.

Last week, a husband and wife who were also involved in the robberies were remanded for six days under the same Section. The man was arrested after his mother surrendered him to the police at the Kuala Muda Police Headquarters.

The two men became ‘popular’ on social media after CCTV footage of them robbing a woman at the launderette went viral.
