ALOR STAR: He was supposed to be the role model of the family but a 48-year-old man took the term ‘family outing’ to the next level. The man brought his teenage son along to a drug haunt.

The father and son ended up being among 18 drug junkies rounded up in separate operations by the state National Anti-Drugs Agency (Nada) in Kota Setar and Pokok Sena districts between noon yesterday and the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

State Nada director Mahadzir Elias said the raids were carried out in Taman Wira, Taman Purnama, Taman Serindit, Titi Haji Idris and several areas in Pokok Sena.

Mahadzir said the operations were carried out following eight complaints received from the public.

"Besides the father and his 19-year-old son, we also arrested a Thai woman and her Malaysian husband," he said in a statement.

Mahadzir said all the junkies, aged between 19 and 48, tested positive of methamphetamine and opiate.

He said the Thai woman, was handed over to the Immigration Department for flouting immigration regulations while the rest will be investigated under Section 3 (1) of the Drugs Abuse Act (Treatment and Rehabilitation) 1983.

Mahadzir urged the public to continue feeding information to the agency in support of its effort to crackdown on drug abuse.
