SANDAKAN: An 82-year-old woman was found hanging from her bedroom ceiling on Saturday here.
Police received a call at 4.20pm from the woman’s son, who had found his mother dead.
“When the police arrived, they found the senior citizen hanging from a white, red and blue rope.
“The height from floor to ceiling was about 10 feet and the length of rope from the ceiling to the neck of deceased is six feet.
“According to the son, the rope was used for exercise. His mother was suffering from various ailments including rheumatism. She had been on treatment since May 2013, and her last appointment was recently on June 6 at the Duchess of Kent hospital,” district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azhar Hamin said.
The woman, identified as Fung Soon Leng, was staying at Taman Tai Fai Yuen, Batu 8 here. The son had said that his mother was feeling depressed the past few days, complaining of unbearable pain and discomfort.
Azhar said that the police found the bedroom in order. It was neat and further investigations showed no signs of foul play or criminal element.
The remains of the deceased have been sent to the district hospital for a post-mortem.
