SANDAKAN: Two people were killed and five more injured in a three vehicle pile-up at Batu 20, Jalan Lubuk here yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Hasran Namang, 33 and Ramli Tapa, 36, who were with three other occupants in a Perodua Viva. The trio – Masran Mansah, 39, Tuslex Tariunan, 48, and Usli Kolibe, 27, were severely injured.
The Viva was heading towards Beluran when it was struck head-on by a Toyota Hilux from the opposite direction at 2.30pm.
Toyota driver Salapan Amat, 56, and passenger Sharlene Billy, 24, were also injured in the incident.
A van driven by Suharto Alimono, which was behind the Toyota, veered off the lane and also struck the Viva. Suharto, however, escaped unhurt.
District assistant commissioner Zabidi Md Zain said all victims were sent to the Duchess of Kent hospital.
