MALACCA: THE Umno National Welfare Bureau is looking for doctors to join a humanitarian mission to Gaza.

Its chairman, Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, said he planned to bring 50 doctors with various specialties on the mission, in collaboration with Kelab Putera 1Malaysia (KP1M) and Aman Malaysia.

“I am pleading to specialists — gynaecologists, pediatricians, skin specialists and orthopedic surgeons — regardless of their race, religion and political background, to register as volunteers.

“This humanitarian mission
is beyond politics and has no boundary,” he said after presenting zamzam water and dates
to representatives from 185 mosques in the state at Malacca Chinese Muslim Mosque here yesterday.

Present was Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron.

Malacca was the 12th state to receive the zamzam water and dates as gifts in conjunction with Ramadan. The idea was initiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak four years ago.

Azeez said medical experts who wished to serve as volunteers and Malaysians who wished to donate in cash or kind for the mission could contact the KP1M secretariat at 03-22736004.

He hoped the public and the corporate sector would contribute 40 tonnes of medical equipment and medicines, as well as 60 tonnes of food for the people of Gaza.

“I will seek assistance from Wisma Putra and the Egyptian government to enable the mission to enter Gaza via Rafah.”

He said volunteers must be mentally and physically prepared for the mission, as Gaza was a dangerous area.

Meanwhile, Malaysia-Palestine Youth Movement secretary-general Halim Tuah described the attack by Israel on Gaza as “murderous”.

Halim tweeted: “DON’T BE FOOLED. It’s NOT war but MURDER! ISRAEL uses JETS to bomb GAZA that has NO Air Defence/ Heavy Weapons/Army.”

Israel’s air attacks on Gaza claimed the lives of more than 100 Palestinians, including children.
