RAWANG: THREE students of SK Pasir Panjang, Sekinchan, were recently crowned as winners of the Perodua Junior Safety Squad 2014 Scrapbook Contest.

Held at the Perodua Learning Centre in the company’s headquarters in Sungai Choh, Rawang, the event saw 1,000 people, mostly parents and students turning up for the event.

The winners, Arfah Shamsudin, Nur Diana Iswan and Julia Mohd Jasni, submitted an entry which included road hazards in schools and homes and how to overcome them in the most creative manner.

SK Bunga Raya (1) was the overall champion as their submissions won the second, fourth and fifth places in the contest.

“It is very encouraging to see schoolchildren so capable to do such detailed work. Hats off to the teachers of SK Pasir Panjang for being great mentors,” said Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh after the prize-giving ceremony.

Second Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan, who was present at the ceremony said conducting road safety programmes among schoolchildren is an effective method to instil good values at an early age.

Kamalanathan also welcomed contributions from the private sector to sponsor the upgrading of school infrastructure such as building bus stops or repainting the school walls.

Perodua, in collaboration with Media Prima Bhd and Animonsta, also brought local superhero “Boboi Boy” and his friends to entertain the pupils.

Other sponsors include Faber Castell Malaysia, Malaysia Milk Sdn Bhd and Yeo Hiap Seng Malaysia Bhd.
