KOTA KINABALU: Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) stated there is no problem of implementing orders to fire at intruders if they are done following regulations and laws.

Deputy Commissioner Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun, who is appointed as Esscom commander starting today, said this when asked to comment on Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's statement yesterday that security forces have been given orders to shoot when faced with intruders which deemed a threat to national security.

Zahid made the comment based on a request by Royal Malaysian Navy chief Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Jaafar that government issue such orders following the Mabul attack in Semporna, where a marine policeman was killed and another kidnapped.

"For me no problem, if it is done following regulations and laws.

"There is a clause in the executive order, not for shooting but to gazette certain areas to ban any activities, so we will look into that (the order mechanism)," Abdul Rashid told reporters after paying a courtesy call to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman after the state legislative assembly sitting ended.
