KUANTAN: PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is expected to join the public to break fast at Padang MPK 1 here today before performing the Maghrib prayer at Sultan Ahmad Shah 1 Mosque.

The field, at the edge of well-known Jalan Mahkota Ramadan bazaar and the state mosque, is a popular place for Kuantan folk to break fast.

Many who frequent the bazaar are eager to have the prime minister break fast at the field, which has attracted royal family members and state leaders before.

Earlier in the day, Najib is expected to attend a briefing on state development at Wisma Sri Pahang and is scheduled to perform the Isya and Terawih prayers at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Mosque in Bandar Indera Mahkota after breaking his fast.

Rashidah Rashid, 68, said she was excited to join Najib at the function.

“I’m amazed the prime minister will join us despite his tight schedule. I will cook special meals and invite my family members to join,” said Rashidah of Jalan Bukit Sekilau here.

Food stall operator Wan Nor Asiah Wan Sulaiman, 40, said the traders were excited as it would allow them to meet the prime minister.

“I hope he will visit our stalls and buy some food,”said Asiah who has been selling nasi kukus ayam berempah at the Ramadan bazaar for the past three years.

Mohd Ufiz Ghani, 23, of Pekan said he would buy food at the Ramadan bazaar and break fast with his friends at the field for the first time today.

About six years ago, the field near the state mosque became a favourite place for students to break fast as it was in a strategic location with the mosque and bazaar nearby.
