KUALA LUMPUR: AMIDST the season’s merrymaking, Taman Desa Medical Centre (TDMC) hopes to also make some children happy with its Make-A-Child’s-Wish-Come-True campaign.

Through public contributions, the medical centre hopes to grant the wishes of 30 children, aged between 4 and 17, of Rumah Ozanam 1 and 2.

Each has written his or her wish on a card, which is now displayed on the Wish Board at the TDMC main entrance.

“We hope that the staff and visitors will help to bring some joy to these children by donating the items written on the cards,” said TDMC chief nursing officer and event organising chairman Lee Hoon Ngoh, at the recent launch of the campaign.

The benefactors may write their names on the gifts they have bought and be present when the gifts are presented to the children.

The boys’ and girls’ homes are sheltering 10 and 22 children, respectively, said Rumah Ozanam acting secretary Fred Martin.

“We are still able to accommodate more. In fact, we have never turned away a child in need.”

He said the homes looked out for its charges even after they leave at the age of 17, by helping them to look for a job and a place to stay.

Fred thanked the medical centre for making the effort to light up the children’s lives.

He said it cost at least RM1,000 a month to provide for a child. The two homes are also in need of about RM20,000 for refurbishment works.
