SHAH ALAM: DRB-HICOM today pledged RM5 million to Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to assist flood relief efforts in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang.

A joint contribution by both DRB-HICOM and Albukhary Foundation, the pledge was made during the Tan Sri Muhyiddin Charity Golf Challenge 2015, here.

Its president Tan Sri Mohd Effendi Norwawi said the contribution is aimed to alleviate the burden and help ease the plight of the flood victims.

"The funds will be used to purchase school starter kits, which include complete school uniforms, shoes, stationaries and school bags, as well as kitchen starter kits incorporating items like stove, complete with gas tanks, accessories and drinking water,” said Mohd Effendi.

The pledge signed for a period of two years by Council Member and Advisor to TSM charity Golf Challenge Tan Sri Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas and Tan Sri Abd Rahum Mohamad while signing on behalf of DRB-HICOM is group Managing director Tan Sri Mohd Khamil Jamil and Chief operating officer, services and properties, Datuk Mohamed Razeek Md Hussain.

"This is part of our corporate responsibility initiative and our way of lending support to the promotion of sports in the country," saidMohd Effendi.

Muhyiddin, who is also the Education minister, was also present at the event.

A massive flood that hit the East Coast of Malaysia late December last year left more than 200,000 people displaced with an estimated loss of RM1 billion.
