NANNING: Hangrui Imp & Exp Trading (Guangzhou) Co Ltd expects its imports of halal products from Malaysia to reach US$30 million (RM97.2 million) this year.

Its chief executive officer Fu
Bin said as of August, the company imported some US$26 million halal products such as snacks,
biscuits, beverages and chocolates.

Fu said the value of imports increased significantly from merely US$3 million in 2011, which he attributed to the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation office in Guangzhou.

“We hope the volume of the products will increase by 20 to 30 per cent from the current 100 sku (store keeping unit) within the next few years,” he told Malaysian journalists at the 11th China-Asean Expo (Caexpo) 2014, here, yesterday.

Fu said Chinese consumers are confident with Malaysian pro-
ducts and hopes that Malaysian
food and beverage manufacturers would continue to have high standards for its food quality, ad-
ding that Malaysia’s halal certification is also widely recognised in China.

Fu said Malaysia’s halal food and beverage products have gained acceptance in China, especially among the 67 million Muslim population in the northwest region.

Hangrui Imp and Exp Trading has been importing Malaysian products since 2011.

The company is currently trading with eight Malaysian companies in the food and beverage industry.
