PETALING JAYA: Thirty years on and still dominating the country’s media industry, Sistem Televisyen Malaysia Bhd or better known as TV3, is still going strong, boasting over three million viewers for every programme aired.

Media Prima Television Networks chief executive officer Ahmad Izham Omar took pride in saying that the station has and still is setting standards for many other media organisations in the country.

“TV3 was and still is the standard for many things, evolving with the current technology and trends, introducing new features and contents.

“And through this process, it dominates the industry and the minds of the people,” he said in his speech at TV3’s 30th anniversary celebration at Media Prima headquarters here in Sri Pentas, today.

Established on June 1, 1984, the country’s number one channel still owns a 25 per cent market share although there are over 200 channels at present in Malaysia.

Ahmad Izham attributed the success to the continuous hard work, dedication, creativity and innovative ideas of TV3 staff.

In conjunction with its three decades of success, TV3 has introduced an array of programmes including a special telecast of the four blockbuster Transformer movies.

“This was our first partnership with an international movie franchise through United International Pictures (UIP), where we will be airing all four movies throughout this month,” he said.

Among other programme introduced were ‘Drama Festival Kuala Lumpur’ (DFKL) and community-based programmes such as ‘Bersamamu’, ‘Misi K Syria’ and ‘30 Jemaah Haji’.

In addition, the ‘Buletin Utama’ news programme has improved on its features and contents.

“With these changes, we hope to preserve balance and continue to bring credible and reliable latest news and information to the people,” he said.

Television dramas such as ‘Cerita Cinta Kita’ and ‘Kasih Berbisik’will also be aired this week.

‘Kasih Berbisik’ is TV3 and MediaCorp Singapore’s first joint production, featuring actors from Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.

Among those present today at the celebration were Media Prima Television Networks chief operating officer Seelan Paul, UIP Malaysia and Singapore managing director Nicholas Yong, and Hasbro Toy (Malaysia) general manager Ng Chai Lee.
