SERDANG: Proton returns to its racing roots by having its latest model undergo the R3 Motorsports treatment.

The national automaker is displaying a S70 R3 at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 in MAEPS, Serdang, marking Proton R3's first all-new racing car since the Proton Saga R3 in 2019.

The Proton R3 achieved a remarkable feat by securing victory for three consecutive years from 2017 to 2019 with five wins under its belt which was more than any other team.

"Proton has a long history in motorsports, starting with the original Saga and our involvement was ramped up with the inception of Proton R3 in 2003. Since then, we have competed and won in various competitions up to a global level with models as varied as the Proton Satria, Waja, Suprima S, Iriz, and the latest version of the Saga.

"Now with the Proton S70 R3, we are adding another milestone to our legacy, marking not only the return of the Proton name to the S1K event but also the first racing car based on a model jointly developed by Proton and Geely," said Proton chief executibe officer Roslan Abdullah.

Currently in development by R3, the show car features the latest evolution of the aerodynamic package tailored for the racer. Proton is set to campaign two units of the new car at this year's Sepang 1,000km endurance race.

Attendees who make a on-the-spot booking of models at Proton's autoshow booth will receive exclusive gifts such as sunshades, toll readers, and wireless chargers for certain models.

A special promo is also being offered that is exclusive to bookings placed at the autoshow with registration by June 30, 2024 which includes two years of free service maintenance for the X50, X70, and X90 models as well as RM500 cash voucher for the Proton S70, Saga, and Persona.

Participants can also earn a lucky spin to win exclusive Proton merchandise after test driving a Proton model.
