KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran Tamil language film director Vijeyasingham Kandasamy died today. He was 79.

Tamil language news portal Entamizh Vannangal announced his death on their Facebook page, with the message, "Acclaimed director Vijeyasingham Kandasamy has passed away today.

"May his soul rest in peace. Our deepest condolences to his family."

Actor and director Sasitharan K Rajoo also expressed his condolences on his Facebook page.

"Our deepest condolences to Vijeyasingham Kandasamy's family.

"His contributions to the Malaysian film and television industry will always be appreciated."

Vijeyasingham, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the MICA Awards in February, had five decades' experience in local Tamil language film, television and theatre.
