PORT DICKSON: A semi-paralysed man drowned while swimming in a hotel pool at Batu 3, here, early yesterday morning.

District police chief Superintendent Aidi Sham Mohamed said the 38-year-old victim arrived at the premises with five friends from Subang Jaya, Selangor, for a holiday.

"Police received a report at 7.48am yesterday from a local man aged 34, saying that his friend (the deceased) drowned in a hotel pool at Batu 3, Port Dickson.

"Initial investigations found that the deceased had come with five friends to celebrate a birthday and stayed at a hotel from July 11 to 13," he said in a statement.

He said the deceased and his friends were believed to have been swimming in the pool around 2am yesterday (July 13) with their friends.

"The hotel staff noticed the group engaging in the activity and advised them to stop swimming as it was not the appropriate time to do so.

"However, it was only then that they realised and found their friend (the deceased) swimming with them, showing no response before he was taken upstairs," he said.

Aidi Sham said the victim was later confirmed dead at 4.15am while being transported to the hospital in an ambulance.

"The results of the autopsy conducted this morning (July 14) at 9.30am found the cause of death to be drowning.

"The motive for the incident is still under investigation, and two men and three local women aged between 31 and 36 have been arrested for further investigation," he said.

He said checks revealed two of them have criminal and drug records.

"Initial urine screening test on all five suspects found them positive for THC.

"All suspects were remanded for seven days from July 14 to 20," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
