KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Dayang Nurfaizah believes that although there's no way of stopping people from using artificial intelligence (AI) in many things these days, but there should be a guideline from the relevant authorities so as to curb its use from being manipulated by irresponsible parties.

In a news report today, the 42-year-old singer from Sarawak said that although she's open-minded about AI, she was concerned that it could be misused by irresponsible people which would result in safety and privacy issues.

"I found that there are many videos that make it sound like a particular singer is singing another artiste's song, after being alerted by fans on social media platforms such as YouTube," she said.

"It was surprising to see many videos created by 'fans'. Honestly, I'm a little shocked.

"I understand that sometimes fans would want to hear how their favourite singers would sing other people's songs," she said.

One of the videos in question features AI-generated vocals of Dayang singing to the music of Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza's song 'Aku Cinta Padamu.'

"I've also heard the AI version of Siti singing (Dayang's) 'Seandainya Masih Ada Cinta', but of course, a real live version of her performance would be way much better, that much is certain," she said.

Dayang added that although she thinks AI videos were easy to identify since they sound a little robotic, this trend could pose a threat to the music industry in the long run.
