KUALA LUMPUR: Syafiq Yusof's new crime thriller Sheriff has taken home RM1 million at the box office courtesy of its sneak preview in cinemas last Wednesday.

This has made the two-hour crime drama with a star-studded cast Golden Screen Cinemas' (GSC) top-grossing movie of the year thus far.

In an Instagram post yesterday, Syafiq said: "This is a very promising start for Sheriff. I hope Malaysians will continue to flock to cinemas to watch this compelling drama that focuses on corruption-busting and exposing the enemy within."

Syafiq thanked the police for their advice, guidance, and feedback which made the film possible.

"Syabas to the police and our brilliant ensemble cast who have done a stellar job," said Syafiq.

Jointly produced by Skop Productions and Astro Shaw, Sheriff tells the story of Sheriffuddin Hussein alias Sheriff, a tough police officer from the Integrity Department whose duty it is to combat corruption in the police force.

He meets a young and idealistic police officer Nazri who works in the Narcotics Department and is investigating a series of brutal murders committed by a mysterious man known as the Meth Killer.

Nazri and Sheriff work together to uncover the killer as well as confront the ruthless drug kingpin Tony.

In their mission to bring Tony and the killer to justice, Sheriff and Nazri are aided by no-nonsense female police officers Sha and Jane.

Sheriff stars Zul Ariffin, Syafiq Kyle, Datuk Aaron Aziz, Azira Shafinaz, Elizabeth Tan, Shaharuddin Thamby, Kodi Rasheed, Hazama Azmi, and many more.

The main cast will be meeting and greeting fans at selected GSC cinemas around the Klang Valley on April 27 and 28.
