KUALA LUMPUR: The wait is almost over. Samsung will soon launch its latest Galaxy S series smartphone – the Galaxy S8 and S8+.

The phones were unveiled to local media in Kuala Lumpur today, and the reaction they received was positively rapturous.

Set to create a new trend, Samsung’s new phone features the infinity screen concept, or bezel-less design, ditching the traditional clickable home button and the upper bezel.

The Galaxy S8 and S8+ come in 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch screen sizes, and the bezel-less design gives them a smooth, uninterrupted surface with no buttons or harsh angles. This will enable users to enjoy immersive viewing without the bezel distraction.

In terms of durability, the phones come with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back, for robust protection.

On the imaging area, both phones come with 8MP F1.7 smart auto-focus front cameras and 12MP F1.7 dual-pixel rear cameras, designed for low-light, zoom and anti-blur performance.

New in the phones are the industry's first 10nm processor, for better processing speed and efficiency. It is also gigabit LTE and gigabit WiFi-ready, with support for up to 1Gbps.

In the entertainment area, both devices are certified by the UHD Alliance as Mobile HDR Premium for vibrant colours and contrast.

The Galaxy 8 and 8+ are also strong on security, as they are built on Samsung Knox, a defence-grade security system; as well as biometric technologies, including a fingerprint scanner, an iris scanner and facial recognition capabilities.

Besides that, both phones are also IP68 water and dust resistant, have MicroSD support of up to 256GB, boast always-on display, and feature fast and wireless charging capabilities.

The phones also connect with Samsung's new peripherals, such as the new Gear VR with controller, the Gear 360, Samsung DeX, Samsung Health, Samsung Pay and mySamsung support programme.

The Galaxy S8 will be available for RM3,299, while the S8+ is yours for RM3,699, with Midnight Black, Orchid Grey and Maple Gold as the colour options.
