PUTRAJAYA: UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd will collaborate with the government to assist in the latter's commitment towards the development of green technologies and achieving a carbon-neutral target by 2050.

The effort is said to emphasise on the importance of economic diversification and energy security in the nation's strategy to diversify its energy sources.y

UMW Toyota plans to aid the government as well as reinforcing its commitment to a sustainable future by promoting a multi-pathway approach to clean energy.

This was highlighted during the hydrogen-powered mobility solution demonstration session, held today.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was accompanied by Science, Technology and Innovation minister (Mosti) Chang Lih Kang during the event to experience the hydrogen-powered or fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEL) Toyota Mirai.

UMW Toyota president Datuk Ravindran K said the company is thrilled to play a part in this effort as a mobility company focused on advancing sustainable transportation solutions.

Aligning with the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and HETR's strategic objectives, the move illustrates UMW Toyota's dedication to fostering a competitive hydrogen ecosystem and contributing towards the nation's carbon neutrality ambitions.

"This initiative strengthens our commitment to a multi-pathways approach to achieving carbon neutrality, aligning with Malaysia's ambitious goal of becoming a carbon-neutral nation by 2050.

"We are excited to showcase the technological strengths of the Toyota Mirai through this collaboration. Using fuel cell technology, the Mirai combines hydrogen with the air to generate its own electricity, emitting nothing but water," he added.

The Mirai, which means 'future' in Japanese, is UMW Toyota's representation of the potential and viability of hydrogen as a key component of Malaysia's diverse and sustainable energy portfolio.
