KUALA LUMPUR: UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT) said it is working closely with regulatory authorities to promptly and transparently address safety issues highlighted at Daihatsu Motor Co Ltd (DMC) which affect three of its models Vios, Rush, and Veloz.

This is its first statement after Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) highlighted a procedural irregularity in the testing of models by DMC, impacting three Toyota models distributed by UMWT in Malaysia.

UMW Toyota Motor president Datuk Ravindran K. said the company is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards and quality in its vehicles.

"Rest assured, we are actively working to ensure that all our vehicles in Malaysia strictly adhere to the relevant regulations and rules," he said in a statement."Our dedication to customer satisfaction has always been and remains our top priority," he added.

UMW Toyota's statement comes after Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) issued a statement on Wednesday stating that it is conducting a detailed assessment on the impact of DMC's "procedural irregularities" report and a global suspension of its models, on vehicles here.

DMC announced on Wednesday that it will halt shipments of all of its vehicles, after an investigation into a safety scandal found issues at 64 models, including almost two dozen sold under Toyota's brand.
