KUALA LUMPUR: It was a glorious day for Malaysia at the US Women's Open when Sin Li Jane clinched a landmark win which made her the only second Asian champion in the tournament since its inception in 1949.

Li Jane lived up to her top billing by defeating Latvia's second seed Dania Zavjalova 226-214 in the one-game final at Royal Pin Woodland in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Tuesday.

The win, which marks Li Jane's third this season and fourth overall on the Professional Women's Bowling Association Tour (PWBA Tour), earned her US$60,000 (RM283,000).

The previous best achievement by a Malaysian bowler in the tournament was Shalin Zulkifli who finished third in 2008.
