KUALA LUMPUR: Todak Legion showed their potential after emerging the winners of the inaugural Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Academy League (MAL MY).

Legion overcame HomeBois Syndicate 4-1 in the grand finals at Sunway Velocity Mall here on Sunday to claim the biggest slice of the RM93,000 prize purse.

Todak chief operating officer Roslan Rashid said it was a meaningful win for the team as they were not considered to be among the favourites in the competition.

"We're grateful to be the first champions of MAL MY.

"Our success is the result of our experience in the competitive ecosystem, plus our commitment and dedication to developing talented players from our academy."

MPL MY is organised by Moonton Games, the developer of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), with the objective of boosting the development of the sport.

Moonton aims to provide young players a structured entry into professional esports through the tournament.

Barracuda Esports will remain in the top-tier MLBB Professional League (MPL MY) next season after eking out a 3-2 come from behind win over Dxoriginz in a playoff.

Barracuda finished second last in this season's MPL MY regular season, while Dxoriginz finished second in the challenger conference during the MAL MY regular season.
