KUALA LUMPUR: After all the hard work and determination, S. Sivasangari has become the first Malaysian since Nicol David and Low Wee Wern to crack the top 10 of the women's PSA Tour rankings.
Sivasangari moved up one rung to her career-best ranking of No. 10 after reaching the third round of the just-concluded World Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
The 25-year-old is the third Malaysian to be ranked in the top 10 after Nicol, who was No. 1 for a record 108 months, and former world No. 5 Wee Wern.
Sivasangari's career-best victory was achieved in April when she won the London Classic.
With her new status, Sivasangari must do better and climb further up the rankings.
National coach Ajaz Azmat said it is a historic day for Sivasangari.
"The challenge now is to maintain her top-10 status. She has to be mentally and physically ready during tournaments," said Ajaz.
Ng Eain Yow also achieved a career-best ranking by moving up three spots to No. 15 in the men's rankings.
"Eain Yow is on the right track to break into the top 10. I believe he can do it by the end of this year," Ajaz added.
