KUALA LUMPUR: National No. 1 men's squash player Ng Eain Yow has moved up two rungs and is now ranked 17th in the world.

And this will motivate the Asian champion to do better in PSA tournaments.

Eain Yow and Colombian veteran Miguel Rodriguez are jointly ranked 17th.

The 26-year-old, who is based in Bristol, England, equalled his previous world best of 17th in January, 2022.

National head coach Ajaz Azmat said 17th ranking is an achievement for Eain Yow who is also busy with his studies.

"He will focus more on PSA tournaments after he completes his studies in June.

"His next tournament is the Windy City Open in Chicago from Feb 21-28.

"I want Eain Yow to break into the world's top 10 by the middle of next year," said Ajaz.

Meanwhile, national women's No. 2 Rachel Arnold beat Egypt's Haya Ali 11-9, 11-7, 11-6 in the first round of the Cincinnati Cup in the United States on Wednesday.

Joint ninth seed Rachel

will face compatriot and sixth seed S. Sivasangari next for a place in the quarter-finals.

Sivasangari, who dropped one rung to world No. 15, received a first round bye.
