KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Games supreme council have officially approved the inclusion of 488 events for the Sarawak Malaysia Games on August 17-24.

There will be 236 men's events, 217 women's events and 35 mixed category events in 37 different sports. This was decided on in a Malaysia Games supreme council meeting chaired by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh today.

Each event requires a minimum participation of athletes from six states.

The Malaysia Games this year will be hosted in nine different divisions in Sarawak - Kuching (25 sports), Miri (6), Sibu (3), Mukah (3), Bintulu (3), Samarahan (2), Serian (1), Sri Aman (1) and Betong (1).

The organisers have also identified the venues for five games villages in Kota Samarahan, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu and Miri.

NSC also disclosed that 108 cases of overlapping athlete registrations were also resolved with the states involved.

Top performing athletes are sought after for the competition, often leading to a tug-of-war between states vying for the same athlete.
