KUALA LUMPUR: The end might be near for many underperforming divers in the national team as Malaysia Aquatics (MAS) has decided to establish specific qualification criteria.

MAS secretary general Andy Low disclosed that the association would implement Quality Management Systems (QMS) to evaluate and select divers for international championships.

QMS serves as a record-keeping system, documenting information and tracking athletes' achievements each time they participate in competitions.

"We respect the athletes' decision to continue competing, but there must be progress.

"They need to meet a certain level of points. QMS will be utilised in upcoming championships.

"Previously, coaches selected athletes.

"We will provide the best training methods to the divers to meet the qualifying standards. "Therefore, we will establish qualification scores for future competitions. No more sending athletes just for the sake of participation," said Andy.

Malaysia sent 13 divers, including Pandelela Rinong, Nur Dhabitah Sabri, Wendy Ng and Ooi Tze Liang, to the World Aquatics Championships in Doha last week to vie for Paris Olympic spots.

Unfortunately, none of the divers secured qualifications for the Paris Games.

Other team members included Syafiq Puteh, Gabriel Gilbert Daim, Hanis Nazirul Jayasurya, Jellson Jabilin, Bertrand Rhodict Lises, Enrique Maccartney Harold, Kimberly Bong, Ong Ker Ying, and Nur Elisha Rania Abrar Raj.
