KUALA LUMPUR: Ng Jing Xuan of Sunway University shattered the women's javelin meet record with a throw of 41.56m in the second leg of the Higher Learning Institution (IPT) Championships at Darulmakmur Stadium, Kuantan, today.

Her effort erased the old record of 39.73m set by Nur Ayna Huna Maton of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Melaka in March.

Nur Fatihah Haniff of UPM recorded 34.59m to win silver while Nurizzati Alias of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia bagged bronze with 28.61m.

Jing Xuan, 19, was delighted with her effort.

"I was confident of breaking the meet record after setting a personal best of 44.58m at the recent Phnom Penh Sea Games to finish fourth.

"I am happy with my performance."

Syed Abrara Syed Ahmad Zawawi was unhappy with his performance despite winning gold in the men's javelin with a throw of 56.24m.

Chua Yi Xian (48.20m) and Tan Jing Yi (46.49m) finished second and third.

Syed Abrara, a student of Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka, said his effort was way off his PB of 60m.

"However, I could not achieve it due to poor technique."

Jonathan Nyepa of UPM won the men's 200m in 21.69s.

Thafiq Hisham of UPM (21.74s) and Aqil Yasmin of Universiti Teknologi Mara (21.81s) bagged the silver and bronze.

M. Darshini of UPM posted 27.51 to win the women's 200m gold, finishing ahead of Lim Kai Tong of Help Institute (28.11s) and Erissca Peter of UPM (28.70s).
