KUALA LUMPUR: Elrick Roslee was not in his best form but still smashed the men's javelin meet record at the Innotex Open today.

Elrick, who had just recovered from an ankle injury, recorded 58.44m to break the previous record of 54.11 set by Ng Yong Jie last year.

Cheah Wei Jun (55.80) and Shuhaimi Abu Bakar (48.92) bagged the silver and bronze respectively.

The 21-year-old said he was not expecting to set a new meet record.

"It took me two months to recover from my left ankle injury. During that period, I could not compete in tournaments.

"Setting a new record is a boost as I hope to qualify for next year's Asean University Games in Indonesia," said Elrick, a forestry major at Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Fakhrul Abdul Aziz won the men's 100m gold medal, clocking 10.71.

Nabil Alwani Rizal Alwani settled for silver in 10.79, while Yusridzwan Daniel Yusof clocked 10.92 to bag the bronze.

Sprinter Haiqal Hanafi, who won the 2019 Manila Sea Games gold medal, finished 16th in the heats with a poor time of 11.32.

Veteran Zaidatul Husniah Zulkifli won the women's 100m, clocking 12.19.

Nabilah Natasha Azisyan (12.61) and Mis' Ezatul Shafieqa Sapawi (12.90) bagged the silver and bronze, respectively.
