KUALA LUMPUR: A good start to the season in the solo event has boosted the confidence of national artistic swimmer (formerly synchronised swimming) Gan Hua Wei to continue to shine as she takes part on the 2018 Fina Artistic Swimming World Series in Tokyo, Japan which begins this Friday (April 27).

Hua Wei proved what she’s capable of when she won silver in the solo technical routine, amassing 73.5892 points, other than the bronze she won in the solo free event where she collected 78.5000 points during the 2018 Fina Artistic Swimming World Series at the Yingdong Aquatic Centre in Beijing, China on Sunday.

“I am satisfied with my solo performance in China. This is also my best achievement to date, scoring my best score of points since my first foray at the World Series last year.

“However, even though I am satisfied with my performance, but I know that I need to do much better such as improving on the level of difficulty when performing and competing.

“This is because I have set myself the target of qualifying for the final of the solo routine at the next World Series event that will be held in Japan, said the 19-year-old when asked to comment on her stellar recent performances in China earlier today (Tuesday).

“I am hoping for a score of above 70 points in the duet event in Japan,” she said.

For the record, Hua Wei who began her foray into the sport since she was seven years old, is a winner of two gold and one silver at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur Sea Games last August.
