KUALA LUMPUR: Sea Games champion Khiew Hoe Yean clinched his second gold medal at the Singapore National Swimming Championships after winning the men's 400m freestyle event on Saturday.
However, the 22-year-old's winning time of 3:50.54 was not enough to secure qualification for the Paris Olympics, falling short of the Olympic Consideration Time of 3:47.91.
Jerald Lium of Singapore took the silver with a time of 3:55.36, while Malaysian Jayden Tan settled for bronze at 3:56.65.
Hoe Yean won the 800m freestyle event on Friday.
Malaysia Aquatics honorary secretary Andy Low said Hoe Yean will have to wait for the world governing body, FINA, to allocate Universality tickets to those who have yet to qualify on merit.
"For swimming, the qualifying deadline ends on June 23. I don't think there are any more qualifying events in Asia, so we have to wait for FINA to announce the allocation," he said.
"The swimmer under the Universality quota cannot pick events. FINA will decide on the events."
Hoe Yean is scheduled to swim in the men's 1,500m freestyle in Singapore but is unlikely to meet the Olympic Consideration Time of 15:05.49.
He is the current national record holder in the 1,500m freestyle with a time of 15:21.92, set at the Queensland Championship in December last year.
Meanwhile, two-time Olympian swimmer Phee Jinq En won her third silver medal at the championships.
Jinq En clocked 31.94 in the women's 50m breaststroke event, which was won by reigning Sea Games champion Letitia Sim of Singapore (31.36).
