KUALA LUMPUR: It was a memorable birthday present for Pahang Hockey Academy Thunderbolts defender Nor Syakir Hafiz.

As he turned 19 on Saturday, he emerged as joint-top scorer with Andywalfian Jeffrynus of Johor Hockey Association-PHNJ in the Malaysian Junior Hockey League (MJHL).

Syakir and Andywalfian both converted eight penalty corners in nine Division One matches.

The Jerantut-born Syakir, who was the top scorer for Pahang the past two years in the MJHL, said he was thrilled with his achievement.

"I finally emerged as a top scorer in the MJHL. Last year I scored seven goals, and this year it was eight.

"It was nice to receive the top scorer award on my birthday.

"After this, I hope to be called up for national junior training.

I have proven myself that I can deliver goals from drag flicks," said Syakir.

On Saturday, Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School Thunderbolts routed Bukit Jalil Sports School Thunderbolts 7-0 to win their 11th overall MJHL title at the National Hockey Stadium.
