KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu's Hafizuddin Othman has been named as the Malaysia Hockey League's (MHL) best goalkeeper for the third time.

And he is set to be among the 45 players called up for national training.

Hafizuddin, who has 107 international caps, has been Malaysia's first choice custodian since 2020. He was also named the best keeper in the eight-nation Olympic Qualifiers in Muscat, Oman, in January.

Hafizuddin's Terengganu were unbeaten until they lost to Tenaga Nasional 4-2 in the TNB Cup final on Saturday.

The father of two said he is still eager to play for Malaysia.

"I have proven to everyone in the MHL that I'm still the best keeper in Malaysia," said Hafizuddin, who received RM1,000 for his MHL award.

"Although I'm 32. I get better with age. I believe that I can contribute to the national team for another four years."

Hafizuddin, who has been playing for Terengganu since 2014, helped the East Coast team win the double - league and overall titles a few times. And last year, Terengganu achieved the treble.

The other goalkeepers expected to be called up for training under newly appointed national coach Sarjit Singh are Maybank's Zaimi Mat Deris and Andrian Andy Albert who played for Universiti Teknologi Mara in the MHL.
