KUALA LUMPUR: Liaoning edged newcomers QNET Phoenix 1-0 at the National Stadium today to lead the women's Malaysia Hockey League (MHL).

The team from China have 18 points from six wins and one loss while it was the first defeat for QNET, who have 17 points from eight matches.

Liaoning need to win their two remaining matches, against Malaysian University on Feb 24 and Mutiara Impian on Feb 29 to take the league title.

Wang Libin scored the all-important goal for Liaoning in the 34th minute off a penalty corner.
