KUALA LUMPUR: Britain almost slammed the Paris Olympic door on Malaysia with a 4-1 win in Group B at the Oman Qualifier on Wednesday.

Coach A. Arul Selvaraj's men, who had lost 3-2 to China earlier, must beat Pakistan by more than two goals, after a day's rest, and then hope that Britain thrash China.

Malaysia are now embedded at No. 14 in the world, and if they lose to Pakistan, it will cost them when draws are made in international tournaments.

At the moment, Britain have six points while Pakistan and China have three each.

Malaysia's consolation goal was scored by Shahril Saabah off a penalty corner in the 26th minute.

Britain did not play their usual attacking game, but still took three points with goals from Will Calnan (ninth), Sam Ward (32nd, 58th) and Zachary Wallace (39th).

In another Group A match, Pakistan beat China 2-0 after losing 6-1 to Britain.

Pakistan will play Malaysia on Thursday. In their last encounter, at the Hangzhou Asian Games, Pakistan beat Malaysia 5-2 for fifth placing.
