HANGZHOU: For the national women's hockey team, beating Singapore 8-1 in a Group A match at the Asian Games today will serve as a good warm-up for Tuesday's crunch match against South Korea.
Coach Nasihin Nubli Ibrahim said it was an important win for Malaysia Tigresses especially as they are scheduled to play South Korea in their final group match, and to make up for the 6-0 loss to India on Friday.
"Congratulations to the team for recording their second win.
"It wasn't easy to play Singapore because they have shown vast improvement. It's good for us to play opponents like this as it serves as good preparation before facing a tougher side," said Nasihin.
"I'm happy we produced a lot of goals today. Apart from field goals, we also scored from penalty corners."
Malaysia scored through Wan Norfaiezah Md Saiuti, Siti Nur Arfah Mohd Nor, Nuraini Abdul Rashid, Nurmaizatul Hanim Syafi Fuad, Nur Afiqah Syahzani Azhar, Khairunnisa A. Mohd Sharuddin and Hannis Nadiah Onn.
Singapore replied through Leck Gene Yuan Jie.
Nasihin said he will take a different approach against world No. 12 Korea who are the favourites.
