KUALA LUMPUR: The UniPutra Golf Club is organising a charity golf tournament to help raise funds for Kudung FC Sabah, a football club for amputee players.

The tournament will be held at the UniPutra course in Serdang on Sunday and will utilise a 36 stableford format. Entry fee for club members is RM110 while it is RM200 for guests.

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Business Management Sdn Bhd general manager Dr Ahmad Naim Ismail said the proceeds — after deducting expenses — will be channelled to Kudung FC to allow them to compete at the National Football Championships for Amputees in Johor on July 17.

"Kudung FC is a relatively new club and they need funding. The proceeds will help them cover their expenses to compete at the National Championships," said Naim today (June 20).

"This tournament means a lot to them and I think it is important for us to support them as best as possible.

"Currently, about 80 players have registered for the tournament and we are hoping to get more to join.

"Two of our caddies have also pledged to contribute all the tips they receive during the tournament to Kudung FC.

"These caddies are former athletes and are also from Sabah."

It is understood that Kudung FC require at least RM16,000 to compete in Johor, with airfares from Sabah making up the bulk of their expenses.

The two caddies are Dayang Nazirah Awang and Sheila Jane Antoniano who have represented Sabah in field hockey and handball, respectively, at national level.
